Day 1: Gulangyu Island

Day 2: Xiamen University and Zengcuoan Village

Take a stroll around the campus and be sure to check out the famous Yundang Lake, which is a popular spot for students to relax and study.

Day 3: Nanputuo Temple and Hulishan Fortress

Start your day at Nanputuo Temple, one of the most famous Buddhist temples in Southeast China. The temple is located on the slopes of Wulao Peak and features beautiful architecture, beautiful gardens, and a peaceful atmosphere. You can take a guided tour of the temple or explore on your own, taking in the various halls and pavilions and learning about the temple’s history and significance.

After visiting Nanputuo Temple, head to Hulishan Fortress, located on the coast of Xiamen. The fortress was built during the late Qing Dynasty and features a mix of Chinese and Western military architecture. You can explore the fortress and learn about its history, or simply enjoy the beautiful views of the sea and the coastline from the various lookout points and battlements. The fortress also features a small museum with exhibits on Chinese military history and weapons.

In the evening, head back to Xiamen and take a walk along Zhongshan Road, one of the city’s most famous streets. The street is lined with shops, restaurants, and old colonial buildings. You can enjoy shopping, dining, and people-watching, or head to the nearby Zhongshan Park for a peaceful end to your day.

Day 4: Nanjing Tulou and Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster

On your final day in Xiamen, head outside the city to visit the famous Fujian Tulou, or “earthen buildings”. These unique structures are made entirely of earth and have stood for centuries, serving as communal housing and defensive structures for the local inhabitants. The Tulou were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 and are a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the region.

Nanjing Tulou is one of the most famous and picturesque Tulou clusters in the region. This large group of Tulou features a variety of different sizes and shapes, and you can take a guided tour to learn about the history and significance of each structure. Nearby, you can visit the Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster, often referred to as the “four dishes with one soup” due to its unique circular layout.

After visiting the Tulou, head back to Xiamen to enjoy your last evening in the city. You can take a stroll along the coastline or enjoy a final meal of delicious local cuisine before heading back home.
